Situka Alliance Initiative, A Flag Bearer In Formulating And Rolling Out SGBV Prevention At Grassroots in Uganda
We
believe in Zero Tolerance to Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV). To this
end, we propose to offer services to
advocate for enabling environments for gender mainstreaming targeting indigenous/residents/citizens and refugee-related
policies by Local Government Councils in Uganda.
The inception
is through action plans and tools known as District Wide SGBV Action Plans (DWISGBVAPs)
through which it is possible to implement, enhance and track the impact of the advocacy-activities
undertaken between. These advocacy activities are then formulated
into products which shall be handed over at the end of the
project.
There is a link between how people occupy themselves and frequency of conflicts that threaten to derail
quality of life for all. The way land, settlements, social-political structures
and cultural contexts are accessed plays an important role in addressing SGBV.
We train gender equality champions and change agents. They will be provided skills to
formulate ideas, synthesize action plans and conduct viable group activities.
These are ways to mobilize communities towards participating in upliftment and
dignity of all persons. One such way is to tap into Ministry of Gender, Labour
and Social Development (MoGLSD)’s Youth Livelihood Programme, and leverage
opportunities for refugees. We shall explore further opportunities for addressing
a mix of issues around: SGBV; Land use skills including regeneration of soils;
conflict resolution techniques; problem-solving; entrepreneurship; financial
management; food security; psycho-social support to address housing, nutrition,
access to land or water resources by women and children; navigating UNHCR or
Uganda Resettlement requirements; generating and disseminating information.
Our work targets both indigenous and refugees staying in Uganda.
Our
services target three categories of actors/beneficiaries: refugees as the core;
local host communities; and Government of Uganda, Development Partners and
Civil Society. The refugees will leverage their needs, turn them into
opportunities and possibilities. On the other hand, this will create a
relationship with host communities by establishing an environment in which
competencies, opportunities, referrals and empowerment to promote quality life
in Uganda for all are possible.
The goal towards quality life involves smaller milestones including: self-determination; safety; security; housing; nutrition; parenting; productive work; provider roles; schooling; health; and entrepreneurship. General or critical outputs will include: developed training tools; operational manuals; catalytic entities (groups or organizations); resource persons; resources; and analysis tools. General or critical outcomes are the delivery channels through which we have interface with other actors and these channels include: action frameworks; social calendars; and viable action groups entrenching transformative leadership roles. It is through these delivery channels that community-based approaches, networking, partnerships and policy advocacy are possible.

This is how we shall leverage community-based
approaches such as: modular approaches; economic empowerment through Village
Saving and Loan Associations; social enterprises, engaging religious leaders,
school teachers, opinion and cultural leaders as male gender equality
champions; capacity building in leadership and good governance; civic
education, social accountability through participatory monitoring and
evaluation for advocacy.
Conclusion:
We hope you will consider our organization to
provide the consultancy services for the duration of the project cycle. Our
thrust is six-pronged:
1. We
pride ourselves in formulation and synthesis skills creating an environment in
which Men and Boys contribute to self-esteem and dignity affirmation as Gender
Equality Champions.
2. We
have the capacity to create opportunities for rapport creation, mobilization of
resources and engaging in SGBV Prevention activities.
3. We
shall cause opportunities out of which we shall create Rolled SGBV Action Plans 2019-2022. We call these
District Wide SGBV Action Plans (DWISGBVAPs).
4. We
hope to combine all activities into methodologies supporting deeper community
penetration.
5. We
shall provide products making it possible to track achievements and share them
through different media.
6. With
our models in place, we hope to create incentivised or enabling environments in
which refugees engage in many forms of activities that are quality life
fulfilling.
